Activist Toolkit:
On Saturday, October 19, the global anti-fracking movement will come together to call for a ban on fracking with one unified voice. You can plug in to an action near you, or plan your own with the resources below.

Frackdown actions can be anything from a public rally, to a home screening of Gasland, and anything in between. One simple action idea is to meet up with your friends and collect signatures against fracking in your community. The specific action is up to you — the important thing is that you get out in your community and join thousands of others across the globe in taking action against fracking on 10/19.

In the recent Fracking Matters newsletter they name and shame the Irish MEPs who are shamelessly pro-facking.

What is surprising is that Mairead McGuinness is one of these and she actually voted against mandatory Environmental Impact Studies for fracking operations.

Here is what the newsletter had to say:

NAME and SHAME - Ireland's fracked up MEPs!
16 October 2013 at 17:18
At the EIA vote on October 9, two Irish MEPs - Seán Kelly and Mairead McGuinness (both Fine Gael/European People's Party)
- voted against mandatory EIAs! Along with the other two Fine Gael MEPs, they also voted against a moratorium on fracking
last year. Let's act like responsible, active citizens and hold them to account for their actions!

Seán Kelly (Ireland South)
Quote at European Parliament shale gas debate, November 2012: “It’s a matter for Member
States. We have to allow for research, we have to allow for development.”
yet he’s not too concerned about impacts of fracking in Clare, just over the border from his
home county Kerry, where some 495 km2 (122,317 acres) of land is licenced for fracking by
Enegi Oil.

Let's ask him why!

Mairead McGuinness (Ireland East)
According to her website, one of Mairead's priorities is the environment. in particular tackling
the challenge of biodiversity loss and its link with climate change; protecting and defending EU
standards of food safety and production in the EU; and the implementation of crucial
legislation on chemicals in the EU (REACH).yet she's not too concerned about the impacts of
fracking on any of these!

Let's ask her why!
