Meters

To accurately meter liquids one must perform an after-installation test.

The meter’s calibration system should be checked after installation.

1. The installer should fill a 5 litre sample into a 5 litre drum, directly from the source, tap.

2. The sample should be compared to the meter reading. If both are the same, 5 litres, then the meter can be passed as calibrated satisfactorily.

3. Both parties to a calibration should check the results.

4. Failing to preform this test leaves the system open to errors.

5. To ‘OK’ a system in any form without checking may imply acceptance of its accuracy.

6. A calibration should be carried out once a year to maintain accurate measurement.

7. Assisting with or helping to perform such a procedure can be a billable service.

Water.ie is not preforming this calibration.

Their calibration system now happening in Wexford is:
'Could you turn on the tap and I'll see is the meter running'
'It is. OK, thank you. Bye'

Definitely IRISH Water!
