Clebrating Roscommon's Literary Heeritage
The Roscommon Anthology is almost here. A Culture Night Reading in Roscommon town will whet the appetite for the new anthology.
There will be a Roscommon Anthology reading in Roscommon Library at 7pm on Friday, 20th Sept; Culture Night. Three writers featured in the anthology will read: Gerry Boland, Alice Lyons and Michael O'Dea; music will be supplied by Lilibulero. Roscommon Co Library is hosting the event.
Due for publication later this year, The Roscommon Anthology is a major initiative to redress the neglected literary heritage of County Roscommon. The county is either birthplace or is strongly associated with an astonishing array of writers or composers including among others, Douglas Hyde, Percy French, O’Carolan, John McGahern, Oliver Goldsmith, Margaret Cousins, John Waters, Brian O’Doherty, Sir William Wilde and B.M. Croker. This formidable list has the capacity to spark a hitherto untapped interest in the county, particularly among the many tourists who flock to this country for summer schools, arts and literary festivals.
The anthology is a non-profit venture funded by Roscommon LEADER Partnership.the event.
