After 30 meters the Tunnel Boring Machine got bored
Having only just started working on the controversial tunnel, Shell's engineers are already facing significant problems.
As local people always predicted, the doib, an unusual blue/grey mineral soil found under peat bog, is causing issues.
This is the first time such a machine has had to deal with this unstable viscous material. This once again highlights the experimental nature of the project.
Despite having taken more than a year to design and build, according to our sources the TBM got stuck after 30 meters having only just reached the doib. As we write there's no end in sight for this headache.
The tunnel and pipeline cuts right through Sruwaddacon Bay which is a designated conservation site, a candidate Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Special Protection Area (SPA).
Shell has insultingly named the Corrib TBM ‘Fionnuala’ after the female of the Children of Lir, one of the legends most closely associated with the Erris region.
Although the environment's help is welcome, we could always use more people here. Now that the spring is here come and help make 2013 another unlucky year for Shell.

How about this issue / $hell$ 19.2 Billion profit an don't pay any taxes until they write off the alleged 3 Billion plus, that they $ay they spent on the project. How is it we pay tax on just about everything and $hell will not pay any taxes till they leave the area, I hope the drill breaks down completely, just like the new water treatment system in Crossmallina that shell was dumping dob bog water from the site, I have always stated that 100% it would never go ahead, Sure it was good for a few crumbs of jobs but did you sea that film clip of the gas plant spewing gas then the explosion, Most of the people that worked in that gas refinery were melted beyond belief, Shell do not care about the great risk to the public or it's work force. Why would they build a raw gas refinery on land when it was cheaper ( TWISTER ) that you $hell invented an works safer then to build at the rig , What a joke you are $hell, I hope it gets bogged down 30 meters and never comes up again. The Children of Lire are happy...an so are the people who lives you put at risk that have been against this way the project was processed, one step at a time. So why don't you turn around and step back from this nightmare go out the same way you came in just get out .
The last Fionnulla to land in the estuary spent 300 years there!
Don't worry the real "Fionnuala" will choke the imposter with doib and running sand.
No use bringing chemicals in ,in the middle of night,this will not solve the problem.
