A member of the Anti Fracking (Hydraulic Fracturing) movement NO FRACKING IRELAND is coming to IADT, Dun Laoghaire to talk about Hydraulic Fracturing. The talk will cover:
: what it means for Ireland
: what we can do about it:
: why it is so important for us to be aware that is may be coming into Ireland
***The Anti Fracking Campaign in Ireland is strong and getting stronger every day. Unfortunately you can't always rely on the mainstream media to give you all the information needed to make up your own mind on the subject. In fact it has been almost ignored to the point where a large proportion of the public don't even know what it is.(check out the links below for some really good info)
What we hear from mainstream media sources is often bias and short sighted ie: this gas project will bring energy security, jobs and industry to little old Ireland when we need it most. Not True.
The truth of the matter is that Fracking is an extremely dangerous and invasive process, the benefits of which are finite and do not even nearly outweigh the destructive nature of this quick-fix-project.
So how are we, the Irish people supposed to know what to do if we aren't getting the full story from the media? Or conflicting stories from different media sources? Informing yourself is the first step, and becoming active in spreading the word is always a good thing!
Gearoid O Loinsigh will be talking about how he as an activist uses his skill as a photographer to work with the Anti Fracking campaign. This will be a great insight into how to use the media we have at our disposal for issues of great importance, and for the public good.
**EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO THIS TOPICAL SESSION, (in and out of IADT!)
AFTERWARDS-
From in and around 7.30/8pm Upstairs in Bakers Corner-
IADT's own DJ Donna and Mecca will be playing, along with Tuathal from Roots Corner: Expect this to start with ska and move through the roots of reggae all the way up to drum and bass. Lovely positive beats and sounds for the evening that's in it!
