The current economic model, based on the massive use of energy, is pushing more intensive forms of extractive activities which often have detrimental impacts on communities and the environment. This reality has lead to many cases of open conflict between local communities and multinational interests –with national governments sometimes opting for aiding economic interests with the use of public force against local communities in resistance. Speakers from Colombia and Ireland will address this tension and how communities organize to resist an unsustainable model.
