Yes Cinema Night Returns at Solidarity Books is back for a new season of thought provoking fabulous films with a change of night to Wednesdays at 8pm. The October programme starts with "Germany in Autumn" this Wednesday :
'Germany in Autumn'
This Wednesday 10th October 8pm
"Made in the 6 months after the events of the German Autumn, a dozen filmakers of the German New Wave found they had to make a film (really a collage of shorter pieces) reflecting on the events of the last 10 years or so and what it meant to be living in the FDR in 1977/78. The FDR: nominally a liberal democracy, where political opponents of the state (albeit terrorists) were being executed in their cells, where there was a clear continuity between those who profitted under the Nazi regime of the 30/40s and those who were profitting under the democratic regime of the late 70s, and when there were very obvious and uncomfortable parallels emerging with Germany's openly fascist past involving what it was permitted and not permitted to say in public. All these problems and more are examined by the directors of the film."
