500 BASQUE POLITICAL PRISONERS ON HUNGER STRIKE IN SOLIDARITY WITH THEIR COMRADE JOSU URRIBETXEBERIA
A terminally-ill Basque prisoner has resorted to hunger strike to win his release on parole home, as allowed for in Spanish law. Five hundred of his prisoner comrades are on hunger strike in solidarity.
Josu Urribetxeberria has been diagnosed as terminally ill and according to Spanish law should be paroled but in a vindictive process of the Spanish state was first of all kept in prison far from his family, then as his health deteriorated more seriously and after many protests was moved to a hospital in the Basque Country where he is being kept under police guard (who on occasions also threaten and abuse him). He has gone on hunger strike to be allowed to go home to die. Five hundred Basque political prisoners are on hunger strike in solidarity.
