Panama has just banned hare coursing: Ireland should follow!

Tuesday April 03, 2012 15:30 by End Hare Coursing in Ireland
Panama has banned live hare coursing...the government of Ireland should do likewise via the upcoming Animal Health and Welfare Bill. Panama has banned hare coursing (along with bullfighting, dog fighting and a number of other cruel practices) and while other animal protection issues remain to be addressed, that country deserves huge credit for taking this giant step forward. The animal in the picture is a Tapeti (commonly referred to as a forest rabbit but officially a hare) of the kind prevalent in Panama. Hopefully this graceful creature will now be spared a fate meted out to so many hares here in Ireland, which still allows hare coursing. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2I can't believe that a country like Panama that up to recently was castigated for its outdated animal welfare laws can actually ban hare coursing but our so-called advanced European nation still allows this scandal. People like environment minister Hogan should stop giving their support to hare coursing and stop pretending that the new animal welfare bill will be anything but a complete farce if it contains an "exemption" for one of the worst forms of animal cruelty.

Hare coursing: Banned in Panama as of this month but a legal "sport" in Ireland backed by the Fine Gael party
Good for Panama, now let's see if they get around to banning money laundering, which is ever so slightly more important to their economy, along with other financial "products" in this Latin Switzerland.
