Bulgaria Bans Fracking - (from SchNews)

category international | environment | other press author Friday January 20, 2012 14:15author by Barry Finnegan Report this post to the editors

"Bulgarians shut the Frack Up

In good fracking news to the East...

Bulgaria have banned hydraulic fracturing after nationwide mass protests across twelve cities in Bulgaria last Saturday (12th) saw thousands of people take to the streets, along with solidarity demos organised by Bulgarian expatriates and other anti-fracking campaigners in several other European cities including Paris, Copenhagen and London." But beware ... they're coming back for more: From:
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-01-19/bulgaria-ba....html
“Chevron is confident that a considered review of the issues of concern in Bulgaria, using reputable scientific information, will do much to allay the concerns of the Bulgarian people and demonstrate that exploration and development can be done while protecting people and the environment,” Kurt Glaubitz, a spokesman for the San Ramon, California-based company, said today in an e-mailed statement.

But then on the plus side!: (From: http://www.treehugger.com/fossil-fuels/bulgaria-bans-fr....html )
"US Ambassador to Bulgaria James Warlick told Bulgarian television, "Chevron could provide millions in investments in Bulgaria and create jobs. Chevron has no other interests in Bulgaria besides shale gas and would be forced to leave the country if its opportunities are curbed.""
