Why is the Irish Left silent on the Holocaust of Sirte?

category international | anti-war / imperialism | opinion/analysis author Thursday October 06, 2011 19:23author by An Draighneán Donn Report this post to the editors

Sirte has become the Guernica of the 21st century. The bombing it has been subjected to surpasses Gaza and even Fallujah for its criminal targeting of civilian homes, hospitals, utilities such as water, gas and oil, etc. And yet, while the people of Sirte face extermination by gangs who have already lynched and ethnically cleansed thousands of Black people, the Irish Left maintains a cold silence towards this agony. Why?

The people of Sirte are now completely surrounded by hostile forces. From the sea, they are bombarded by NATO war ships. From the air, death is rained down on them in the form of high explosive, white phosphorus and depleted uranium, by land, they are surrounded on three sides by racist lynch mobs and Nato "special forces." These mobs firing randomly into a crowded city from tanks and heavy artillery. And yet, the spirit of the people of Sirte has not been broken. The spirit of No Pasaran holds the line.

What a contrast from the Spanish Civil war, when the Irish Left had the courage to stand up to Fascist Imperialism. Today, the Irish Left skulks in silence and guilt - afraid to speak out.

Why? Could it be that the Irish Left foolishly put high hopes in the so called "Arab Spring," and now that we see that the only result of this "Arab Spring" is total military dictatorship in Egypt and the Nato Holocaust of Libya, the Irish Left are just keeping their guilty heads down, hoping for the whole thing to pass over?

Or, could it be that certain elements in the Right are correct? That the Irish Left never even cared about Palestinians. After all, the Irish Left usually collaborated with British occupation in Ireland. Could it be that what motives the Irish Left in their condemnations of the bombing of Gaza is merely anti-Jewish hatred? They don't give a damn about the Palestinians themselves.

Of course, another issue is the fact that the Trendy Lefties don't want to be accused of helping Gaddafi "the mad dictator." We know he is mad because Regan told us so. He also is in favour of Direct Democracy, which must Irish Left Wing Parties are very much against. They love their leaders and followers - and, of course, the Irish Left see the Irish people only as followers.

However, whatever your personal feelings about Gaddafi, there is only one honourable position to talk in regard to Libya, and that is total hostility to Nato and their racist lynch mobs, and unreserved support for the Libyan Patriots who continue the Resistance.

People could claim that they didnt know about the Holocaust of the Jews. Information was scarce. It was difficult to seperate wild propaganda from the truth. But, there is no excuse this time. The Irish Left KNOW what is happening in Sirte especially, but also Bani Walid. If the Irish Left continue its complicit silence, then the blood of innocents are on its hands.

What some stupid Yanks don't understand is that Obama\Bush\Clinton, etc., are just Rothschild\Bilderberg house boys. The real owners and rulers of the USA don't stand for election - they just sent out their puppets to give the ignorant plebs a circus.

Libya under the Jamahiriya had 124 prisoners per 100,000 of population

The USA has 743 per 100,000 of population

Which is the tyranny???

In these times of capitalist decadence and nihilism, it's very easy to forget that such courage even exists. God bless you brave warriors of the Jamahiriya, the Peoples Direct Democracy.

..in the propaganda is gobsmacking. The rebels are now automatically 'the government', and the government is the insurgents. But then its a been a 'civil war' from the start, despite all the special forces and multi-power external air and logistical support.
BBC are actually admitting this morning that the 'government' doesn't have the 'organisational skills' to move on Sirte, just yet.

Chavez should look at what Gaddafi did as his main strategy against Nato invasion - he armed the entire population (which, of course, gives the lie to the idea that Gaddafi was afraid of the people.) An armed people can never be defeated, regardless of what technology of genocide Nato develops. I believe that Third World countires should not waste money on hi-tech weapons. They will always be buying "last years weapons" compared to what Nato has. Instead, they need to arm the whole people with light and cheap weapons and explosives, and organise the people according to Direct Democracy - as in Libya. Direct Democracy, and an armed population can never be defeated.

"A BBC correspondent just outside the city says pro-Gaddafi forces are putting up extraordinary resistance in defence of what seems a lost cause."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-15224301

Perhaps the Libyan people do not consider the sovereignty of Libya to be a "lost cause." God bless them, they are the inspiration and the light of the world.

Even the lickspittle Irish Times has to admit the incredible courage of the Libyan Patriots:

"Transitional Libyan government forces with heavy guns mounted on some 100 vehicles swept into Sirte today in one of the biggest assaults yet in the battle for Col Muammar Gadafy's hometown, but had to seek cover when they drew withering fire from his diehard loyalists."

"They're fighting us fiercely because, for sure, Mo'tassim is inside (Sirte)," said Abdulrazaq Haroun, one of the NTC commanders in the city"

And has to reveal the cowardice of the Nato rats:

"One anti-Gadafy fighter said that instead of sending in men on foot to locate the snipers, they were now identifying their firing positions from a distance and blasting the buildings where they were hiding with heavy weapons."

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/1008/....html

And, of course, the Nato genocidists are bombing the civilian population of Sirte from the safety of the sky:

"By early morning dozens of buildings were burning, and a thick black smoke enveloped the city.
"They are screaming that people are dying everywhere," said a man listening into loyalist radio frequencies.
Nato planes whirred overhead. "Since yesterday NATO has sent messages on the enemy's radio frequencies telling them to drop their weapons, and leave their tanks," said field officer Mohamed Shebti.
The battle for Sirte is the culmination of the Nato supported eight month Libyan civil war."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindi....html

And, surprise surprise, the lazy, mindless, duffers in RTÉ just print Nato propaganda - without question:

The superhuman defense of Sirte continues. Despite constant Nato bombing over the weekend, and the carpet bombing of the center of Sirte, incredibly, the noble Patriots of the Libyan Defense Forces still keep the Green Flag of Freedom flying in Sirte, and deny Nato the Al Jazeera moment they so desperate crave:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/10/us-libya-idUS...11010

That Reuters had to print this line is very telling:

One man, a student, who had escaped from the center of the city, said he had watched from a rooftop on Sunday as Gaddafi soldiers destroyed 10 government pick-up trucks.
"Their morale is very high," said Salam Awad. "They are prepared to fight to the death."

After weeks of genocidal Nato bombing, how can we imagine such noble spirit? These Patriots are the shining light of the human race. They are the living proof that, after all the nihilism of Late Capitalist commodification, the human spirit will always shine through.

A very good article from World Socialist Website, which clearly shows the genocidal intent of the the Nato rats against the people of Sirte:

The NTC militias are determined to carry out a ruthless collective punishment on the population of Sirte. The city was promoted by Gaddafi as a kind of alternative capital to Tripoli and was always closely identified with his regime, being Gaddafi’s home town and a centre of his tribe, the Gaddafifahs.

The militiamen now entering the city are largely drawn from Misrata, where much of the heaviest fighting occurred during the civil war. They have bombarded Sirte after earlier wreaking vengeance on Tawargha. That town of 10,000 people has been looted and razed, with the entire population driven out and told to never return. There was clearly a racist element to this attack, with much of Tawargha’s population consisting of dark skinned Libyans and immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa. Many fled to Sirte and are now again at risk of being dubbed “mercenaries” and detained, tortured and killed by NTC forces.

Several anti-Gaddafi fighters have openly spoken about their intention to destroy Sirte as they did Tawargha. One gunman told Reuters on Sunday: “By the time we enter Sirte, there will be no Sirte.”

the so called irish left is an embarassment. they are a complete joke.

during the british royal visit to dublin, after it all died down on the tuesday at around half six
the 'irish left' gathered at the gpo with banners about imperialism in iraq and afghanistan, they didnt even attend the actual protests against the imperialist ass licking visit, instead they had their own.
there was no mention of ireland, where currently there are 5000 british combat troops garrisoned in the occupied 'northern ireland', the irish left is obviously afraid the mention the north for fear of being labelled a 'dissident' or 'dissident republican'. this is an avoidance of reality,a reality people in the north live every day under constant harassment by the ruc/psni,republicans are being interned again, quite blatantly! yet the irish left never mentions these real facts about their own country.
because they basically have no balls. they have no balls to seriously challenge the status quo in this country.the status quo is capitalism, its patition, and the forces that copper-fastened partition.
all ther irish left are interested in doing is using campaigns to further their own electoralist agenda.

in cork, during the royal visit, the socialist party claimed that it wouldnt protest against the british queens visit on the grounds that 'it would be inherently sectarian',this coming from one of the most sectarian parties in ireland is quite funny.the reality is they would rather avoid the reality of cork being turned into a police state for the day, children being used as potential human shields in the event of an attack.,the rights of cork citizens being thrown out the window.
the real irish left were the ones who protested against this shameful visit!

so if your wondering why the 'irish left' is silent on an issue well you only have to look how it behaves in its own country.

as a comrade once said to me, 'far away revolutionaries......the further away the better'

If the information in these videos is reliable then it appears that the NATO-allied  forces in libya are losing heavily on the ground.

While this may be gratifying it also means that NATO will step up their bombing leading to a very sharp increase in the number  casualties amongst helpless Libyan civilians - we have already seen from Pictures what NATO and it's proxy forces had done in Sirte

Be prepared for more lies and bullshit form the BBC/CNN/RTE/SKY etc about events in Libya - these organisations seem to be doing their best to ignore the slaughter NATO is bringing to the innocent people of Libya - they will of course continue to do their best to either ignore the coming rise in NATO killings amongst Libyans or else try to attribute it to solely Libyan-based groups.

These Western Media organisations will continue to uncritically report any statement from NATO commands as being 'true' while casting doubt on, or completely ignoring,   reports of attrocities commited by NATO. - just like they  did in Iraq and are still doing in Afghanistan

They will also try to con you that the real Libyan resistance (i.e: Not the NATO-backed 'rebels') is responsible when the inevitable NATO-backed massacres and atrocities associated with EVERY NATO or US military action, come to light.

pretending that this is in someway for some twisted 'humanitarian' purpose is a viewpoint promoted by outright psychopaths

On another thread, the issue of what the "cause" of the Nato rats might be is raised. I think this is a good question. Who exactly is behind the Nato rats? Its clear that Nato itself was behind this coup d'état from the very start. They wanted a bridge head in Africa for the re-conquest of Africa. They wanted the oil, and to keep China out. These were long term strategic goals. But, there was something driving them that was far more pressing, and that was the immanent introduction of the Gold Dinar as an oil trading currency, which could have buried the dollar and took down the US economy with it. This explains that while China has vetoed attacks on Somalia in the UN, and now has rejected plans to attack Syria, both China and Russia allowed the invasion of Libya. the plain fact is that both China and Russia stood to lose billions if the Gold Dinar was introduced. The Gold Dinar, and an African central bank would have raised Africa out of slavery - and would have sunk Western Capitalism to its true position, i.e. a bankrupt system, which cannot survive without the slavery of Africa and the rest of the Third World. But, this is clearly not the whole story. Nato found ready made allies in Libya. Who were these people? Were they all Al Qaeda fanatics? Who are now dreaming of turning the war against Nato? Far from it. The sad fact is that Libya has developed a native bourgeois class, some of whom have become very rich on the exploitation of the Libyan people. Gaddafi, in trying to hold the country together, had been forced to allow this parasite class to develop. Even though such a class is totally against the spirit and letter of the Green Book. Of course, without Nato airpower and special forces on the ground, none of this "rebellion" could have happened. But, that said, the main financiers of this rebellion are the wealthy capitalist class of Misrata and Benghasi, who had already gained economic power, and were now hungry for political power. The idea that Libyan oil is used to benefit the whole people of Libya, and cannot be privatized for their own private enrichment, is an affront to their new found power. This class are precisely the same class of people who oppose Chavez in Venezuela, and who organized the attempted "rising" in Santa Cruz in Bolivia, in the hope of robbing the Bolivian people of its natural resources. Even Reuters have had to admit the truth of this situation: "But as Misrata, a commercial hub whose notables opened their wallets to arm a volunteer force," "At tanker trucks parked alongside the road linking Misrata to Sirte, gunmen returning from a day's fighting fill their vehicles - often adorned with the makeshift rocket launchers that are the tools of their war, or loaded with objects, such as equipment from the recently conquered Sirte airport, that are its spoils. They register their license plate numbers in ledgers kept for the Misrata businessmen who send the fuel, and also fund the makeshift rest stops which ply commuting gunmen with tea, tuna sandwiches and packaged cakes. No money changes hands." http://www.jpost.com....aspx?id=241839 Its the old story. Indeed, it is precisely the story of the Irish civil war. The ranchers put their hands in their pockets to bankroll a free state army, made up of demobbed British soldiers and lumpenproletariat. The aim is also the same - to put de facto political and economic power in the hands of those who bankrolled the coup d'état. So, what we are seeing in Libya is an unholy alliance between Nato, Islamic fanatics, wealthy businessmen, and a mindless lumpenproletariat (the bulk of the rebel forces) who will be crushed and put back in their box as soon as their masters have what they want. The victims of all this are the Libyan Working Class, who will lose the social wage that they have enjoyed for decades, who will lose free education and health care, free electricity and subsidised fuel and car purchases, and who will lose 0% interest loans. Like the untermench of the West, they will be turned into debt slaves.

Sirte: A Tale of Heroism and Bravery By Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey Sirte must go down in history as one of the world's epic tales of heroism and bravery, the tremendous resistance of courageous and resolute warriors standing fast against the hordes of sheer evil, cowards cowering behind a relentless and inhuman NATO bombing campaign, strafing civilians and soldiers alike in support of terrorists. The lesson from Sirte must go down in the annals of the collective identity of humankind as a classic and historic tale of resilience and virtue and determination, the fight to survive against the most tremendous odds - Libyan Patriots standing fast against marauding gangs of cowards and traitors, foreign mercenaries, looters, rapists, murderers, torturers and terrorists which the TNC have revealed themselves to be throughout months of horrific human rights outrages. The lesson from Sirte is an example in quite how low an evil invasion force - NATO - can become, for several reasons. How it can use military hardware to strafe anything that moves, how it can bomb civilian structures, how it can mow down Libyan heroes defending their homeland against foreigners and defending their homes and families against terrorists and rapists. It also shows up the connivance between NATO and Islamist terrorists (yet again visible since Afghanistan, since Kosovo, since Iraq) and it shows the callous cold-blooded disregard for human life demonstrated by a faceless and grey organization which thinks nothing of signing up desperate young men from across the Arab world, and beyond, and sending them to their deaths for a sign-on fee of 10,000 USD. Many remain unpaid, yet NATO thinks nothing of standing back as thousands are slaughtered by the determination of Libyan Patriots standing up for their country, resisting the invader most heroically, in the most brazen demonstration of virtue and justice seen since the Serb, Greek, French Resistance against the evil hordes of Hitler. In Sirte, 7,119 specimens of the marauding filth NATO supports have been exterminated as the local population stands and fights to defend their homes and wives and children from NATO's evil scourge which has carried out mass rapes, murders and tortures. Yet it is these looters, rapists, murderers, terrorists and torturers that Cameron, Hague, Sarkozy, Juppé, Clinton and Obama support. The lesson from Sirte is today one of resilience and resistance, as it stands defiant against NATO's indiscriminate bombing and the hundreds of rockets unleashed by the terrorists it aids. Whatever the outcome, where is the glory and the valour in imposing the rule of the mob from 30,000 feet and from a helicopter gunship? The lesson from Sirte will continue to be taught tomorrow. You do not win a battle by destroying a city, by massacring thousands of people and by killing the defenders to unleash against it thousands of terrorists, any more than you win an election campaign by banning the most popular party. The hearts and minds of humankind are with the people of Sirte, heroes who dare to stand up against Satan and the Satanic hordes of terrorists NATO has spawned. They may own our pet Foxes in RTE et al, but Africa, Arabia and Asia will be the judge, and they are as aware of the operating agendas as any observant Irish republican. The blowback will emerge, as ever, and their crisis management will eventually turn on itself.
The horror is the ongoing damage, but then ask Palestine or Haiti. Or Iraq and Afghanistan. Or Congo and Somalia(no emergency to excerise their Right2Protect moral high horse's dressage there).
Reality will be harder to spin as their wars fail to pull their economic chestnuts out of the fire. Its just the same ol, as you say, scramble, take the long scope and keep following their games.

Next move?Well Iran is on their spit and the rotations are in train. They have a hard-on for Chavez in the pipeline too, big time. But America is finaly stirring(I see implosion and maybe real shit brewing there, but that too could be just wishful thinking).

They have already overdrawn the planet; the tail-chasing to recapitalise their blowout becomes more keystone by the day. Even the mainstream is recognising the intellectual, moral and economic bankruptcy they think is merely financial.
As for the mudguards you list. Shame: I dont think they do that one.
