Join us for a relaxed conversation about anarchism over some tea & coffee.
Twice a month we are going to be having an open discussion about anarchism in the form of a conversation around a set of questions. The idea is to create a space where people interested in finding out about anarchism can have a relaxed conversation with each other. As each sessions we will be working through a set of questions taken from the Anarchist FAQ.
The meetings will take place in the Seomra Spraoi Social Center which is at 10 Belvedere Court, Dublin 1. You'll find a map of where Semora Spraoi is located on their website at http://seomraspraoi.org/ The first session will start at 7.30 on the 5th October
We are calling this first session 'An Introduction to Anarchism' and we will be using the five questions from the Anarchist FAQ to start off our conversation. These are
What does "anarchism" mean?
Are anarchists socialists?
Where does anarchism come from?
Why is solidarity important to anarchists?
Are anarchists in favour of organisation?
You can read the FAQ at http://anarchism.pageabode.com/afaq/index.html but while this might be useful you don't have to have read it to take part.
If you are on Facebook your can RSVP at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=112525395520566

A. Basically, it's because anarchists subscribe to freedom for words . Unlike Marxists , anarchists do not believe in the false assertion that words should be slaves to their “meanings” .
This is the sort of stuff they have in the anarchist FAQ linked to by Mary:
“We are aware that we repeat many of our arguments in these appendices. That, unfortunately, is avoidable for two reasons. Firstly, Marxists usually repeat the same false assertions against anarchism and so we have to answer them each time they appear. Marxists seem to subscribe to the point of view that repeating an error often enough makes it true. Secondly, we have tried to make each appendix as self-contained as possible and that meant repeating certain material and arguments to achieve this. We hope the reader understands.”
