A series of talks and workshops
August 19 - 20th Outside Old City Arts Building, 23-25 Moss Street, Dublin 2
This two day event will look at issues surrounding education, the property crisis, and how to fight back against the narrow economic imperatives dominating both of these fields today.
As ordinary people willing to engage in political discussion, we find ourselves pushed out of the spaces which should belong to us. NAMA has left countless buildings empty and denies citizens access to them. The university is not interested in providing an adequate space for learning, and insteads orients its teaching and research toward the market. This event aims to be part of a resistance to these tendencies, while at the same time creating a space for new ideas to grow. The Campaign for Old City Arts Building want to re-open this building to run it as a citizen-managed educational and cultural space, independent of private or state institutions and open to everyone. We reject the false pretense of NAMA which denies citizens the right to their city.
