"Many tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, and potentially millions of people have lost their lives with the vaccine," grieved Dr. McCullough.

Sacked Shop Steward receives letter of reinstatement after campaign of solidarity pickets
Joanne and supporters outside Ashleaf Centre
Dunnes Stores have 87 outlets in the Republic of ireland. When they sacked a 22 year old shop steward from their Ashleaf store, the decision of one manager in relation to one worker seemed small beans. But three months after Joanne Delaney was first suspended and then sacked for wearing her union pin the campaign supporting her has placed pickets on more than twenty of these stores to date and grows week by week.
On Friday 24th of February, at the picket of the Ashleaf centre the company gave Joanne a letter saying that she should turn up on Monday morning at 8.45 and she would be rostered on.There was no mention of a uniform policy but Joanne will of course be wearing her union badge and the campaign, support group and wider labour movement is waiting to see if the companies capitulation is complete. In the last week Dunnes outlets as far away as Belfast and Cork as well as North Earl Street, Maynooth, Grafton Street , Donaghmede and the Ashleaf branches have seen pickets. The cross party support has included a Sinn Fein day of action today, Saturday the 25th along with solidarity and actions from a wide range of groups.
Joanne Delaney - Dunnes' Union Nemesis?
At a meeting in Crumlin Village Tuesday evening (Feb 7th 2006), about 60 local activists and residents agreed to form a support group for Joanne Delaney, sacked by Dunnes Stores for wearing a trade union pin, last October. They also agreed to place a weekly picket on Dunnes Stores in the Ashleaf Centre starting next Saturday at 12 noon.
An image of Joanne Delaney was one of the last pictures on the top of the newswire of this site before the layout changed. She was a Mandate worker representative in Dunnes in Ashleaf in Crumlin last October when she was fired for wearing her union pin. An Irish owned retailer, Dunnes was famously involved in a pay off in 1997 to a Taoiseach (Haughey) and a minister (Lowry) leading to the wonder of Tribunal land. It achieved international notoriety in the 1980's as 11 workers stood firm for nearly three years over a Mandate member who was suspended for refusing to handle South African fruit during apartheid. It is heavily involved in both retailing and land deals around Dublin 12, both in the Ashleaf centre where Joanne worked and in the Crumlin and other shopping centres in the area. The Dublin City campaign organises to protect the bin service
The Indymedia newswire has seen reports from anti-bin tax actions in Drimnagh, Finglas and Ringsend and next Monday evening the first city wide protest of 2006 has been called at City Hall. The councillors will be voting on an emergency motion regarding the non-collection of bins, announced by the city manager three weeks ago, against the vote of the council. Across the city as the council starts to leave rubbish behind, groups are being organised to clear this up in the cold January weather. GAA and Labour clubs, pubs and even the cold streets are seeing meetings taking place as lists of bin collections are drawn up and the Dublin City Anti Bin tax campaign starts to act.
Meeting with the Irish Rangers - the elite wing of the Irish army, discussed in strange detail here on the newswire - the Minister with the 'tache promised to protect Ireland from that free speech disease.
Willie O'Dea pointed a gun at camera and said (around the same period of time to an Indo journalist)
"You can't have absolute freedom of speech. There has to be some balance ...". He told "radicals like" Mr Choudary that pointing out that Ireland might be a potential target for a terror attack or implying that Ireland was anything but neutral and holy or saying the massive US military use of Shannon Airport was anything unusual was (like limerick and his photo perhaps) "beyond the pale".
Meanwhile the hiberno-blogosphere choked up in amusement with a plethora of images of Minister O'Dea as Charles Bronson, Groucho Marxman and Dirty Harry as everyone tried to nail down the perfect caption. It just goes to show that Fianna Fail in its headlong upward endless quest for the supreme heights of the grotesque, bizarre etc. is always guaranteed to consistently supply Ireland and the World with a unique twist on the political cowboy genre.
The Indy Newswire coughed up a Taxi Driver classic. Something special in the eyes? Or just another Limerick bhoy with oily mitts sexed up on easy money and the power of the gun?
"Listen . Here's a man who would not take it anymore. Who would not let...Listen you fuckers, you screwheads. Here's a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the cunts, the dogs, the filth, the shit, here is someone who stood up. HERE IS"

The Where's Willy Competition
From the Newswire by Seedot:
A report and pics from a weekend in London - covers the Camden Centre, Beyond the ESF and the Official ESF.
The ideals of the social forum process speak of the creation of a space for dialog and debate between the many social movements that present an opposition to capitalism. The Porto Allegre principles are designed to ensure as inclusive and broad a forum as possible, to encourage the cross-fertilization of all these strands that make up what is referred to as the 'movement'. While the London organising process has been heavily criticised for its departures from the charter of principles many people traveled to London because of the sheer scale of the event, the opportunity to see the differences between the groups and test the pulse of the European movements. The diversity was supposed to be the strength of the social forum, the size was supposed to overcome the problems in the organising with space for everyone in the various events.
Before I left Dublin I had read of the range of groups and spaces and thought that the weekend would be an opportunity to witness this marvelous coming together that many had spoken of in the social forum process. The weekend before I had sat in a circle at the Irish Social Forum and heard academics, trade unionists, social democrats and anarchists discussing their opposing and complimentary views of neo-liberalism and their strategies for dealing with it. The meeting had been positive, not least for the links that were made and the comparisons drawn with the mass movement that developed in Ireland a century before as Nationalism, Socialism and what came to be Irish Republicanism coalesced to defeat the imperialism of that time. London was supposed to be this on a much larger stage.
Flying home my feelings were more of frustration and opportunities missed than any real satisfaction or excitement. I attended events at the Indymedia Centre in Camden, at the Beyond the ESF in Tottenham and the 'Official' ESF at Alexander Palace. Each event was well organised and attended yet it felt like I had been to three conferences in the one weekend. The frustration was that the linkages and cross fertilizations seem to have been ruled out even before the event began as each of the movements retreated into its own space, establishing multiple fora which talked amongst themselves. While what happened was thoughtful, sincere and at times exciting it was what didn't happen that left the lasting impression.
